Lakini Malich discovered that if you remove Garfield's dialogue, it changes the tone of the strip entirely:An interesting thing...if you remove Garfield's thought balloons, it goes from an unfunny comic to a rather sad, poignant story about a lonely man who has wasted his life talking to his cat.
I think it's much funnier this way, personally!

I like it better this way. It suddenly means something.
Yeah, it feels more like a Chris Ware idea or something.
I think the strip would be even funnier and poignant if you took away both of their dialog balloons!!!
And the drawings. Har!
