Good-Bye, Kitty-Mose

We put Mouszers down yesterday. It was just a little over a year from when I put Bart down, so it brought up unpleasant memories for both of us, to say the least. Mouszers had been suffering from irritable bowel syndrome for almost a year, and it didn't look like she was ever going to get any better. It was especially difficult because (though she suffered from frequent vomiting and diarrhea) outwardly she appeared to be fine. Late in the illness, we wound up shutting her off from the rest of the house in the bedroom, and while she loved company, more and more of the time she was lonely and sad. Unlike Bart, she passed immediately upon receiving the injection, and we took it as a sign that she was ready to go. Take care, wuss-wuss. Mommas and Daddas love you.

If you have a moment, please send Anita a consolation note. She's had Mouszers for twelve years, and naturally is taking this very hard.

Actually, Mouszers never liked Bart very much. I'm sure he'll be intruding on her personal cloud somehow! :)

I don't know the right email for Anita, but oh, gosh, guys--I do understand. My dearest pal is a 13 year old tabby(I adopted him from Sherri Stoner, of all people-Tom Minton adopted his sister!)who's been right to the edge and back himself...and because of that, I really don't know how the hell I'm going to deal with it when he leaves us. He's a true fur person, and I know your girl was/is too...there really are no words. You did a very brave thing for her, and she'd love you for it. It's so hard to see them suffer. My heart goes out to you both.

Jeff,
My wife and I would like to offer you and Anita our sincere condolences. Been there and done that too many times myself -- usually becoming violently ill afterward -- even if it was "the right time."

My wife calls the cats -- and, we've had a half-dozen over the years -- our FUR CHILDREN -- and they are.

I certainly understand how special your furry members of the family were to you both ...

Remember the good times, the goofy behavior, the playing, the purring, the kitty kisses and the demands for attention.

And, just remember that your pets enjoyed a pretty darn good life under your care ...

It's true! I think they both had very happy lives with us. I do wish Mouszers could've been more comfortable sharing the house with Bart. By the time he was gone, she was sick herself.

But you're right - there are lots of fun times to remember. Mouszers was the only cat I've ever seen that could play fetch. She would run after it, and trot back with it in her mouth, growling contentedly.

Bart always liked to wash my hair. So much so, he'd grab my head with both forepaws and lick away for as long as I could stand it! It was so sweet. :)

Smiling through the tears ... can't get better than that.

Have a good weekend -- both of you.
