I was seriously wondering what happened to those reviews! I really enjoy your insights. Did you see March of the Penguins? How about NY Doll? Doogal?

Thanks for the nice feedback!
I got busy, and decided to take a break. It's time consuming to write even the short reviews.

I didn't realize it until I put them all on Amazon, but I'd written sixteen reviews before I stopped! More than I thought.

I did see March of the Penguins, and liked it! I thought it was interesting, though, that so many viewers interpreted it as a pro-family-values screed, as it says right in the film that the birds will switch partners if their mates don't return. Not to mention the fact they get a new partner every season.

I wasn't all that interested in seeing Doogal. It didn't look all that compelling to me.

I've never heard of NY Doll. What's it about?

I posted about it. Do you remember the band, New Yorks Dolls? It's a docu about them, and it was bought by sundance.

heres the official site:

Doogal was a joke, b/c Mark Kennedy came to Calarts recently and said that being in animation we have to see every animated movie that comes out. He saw it...sucker :)

And yeah, that was funny to hear the penguins found new mates every year. I think the film could have been way shorter, less gratuitous close ups, and slow motion shots. But it was enjoyable. I definitely don't feel like paying my tuition is quite as bad after seeing their trials.

I forgot you mentioned NYD earlier. I'll check out the website.

Doogal! Heh. I used to feel the same as Mark, but after Fievel Goes West, I decided not to beat myself up any more. I don't go to see every live-action film made, why should I see every animated one?

I'd be just as interested - maybe more - in seeing the making-of documentary of March Of The Penguins as I was in the film itself. I'll bet that shoot was something!
