Real-Life Wacky Races Cars

Apparently, there's a racing event in Britain called the Goodwood Festival of Speed. There's a show within the event called the Junior Festival Of Speed where working mock-ups of the Wacky Racers amuse the crowd! Eight out of the eleven cars on the show are now represented in the flesh. Cool!

Kirk Hanson has been trying to sell this as a movie for years. I think they just solved his car building budget.

You know what? If Warners made it, and the cars looked cool...

... I'd go. God help me, I'd go!

Sniff.

That being said, The Great Race is pretty much the movie version anyway. How well did TGR do when it came out, do you know? Was it successful?

I seem to remember it being successful - it won at least one Oscar, IIRC... still have a laserdisc copy of it, since I seem to remember that they botched the audio and possibly the OAR on the DVD transfer...

Still one of my favorite films... "Push the button, Max!"

I think it won an Oscar for Treg Brown's sound work, which I think is ironic, as much of his effects used were created years earlier! Whatever - he deserved it!
