'Colormation' Screen Test
Here's another alternative to rotoscoping and motion, I mean performance, capture. The makeup on the eyes and face are a little odd, but it's a neat effect. It almost turns people into living Milt Caniff drawings. It'd be interesting to refine this process and shoot "Dick Tracy" or "Sgt. Rock" this way!
PS - Jen Howard's uncle may have developed this - wild, huh?Labels: colormation, comics to film, optical process, special effects, youtube

Wow, thats crazy looking, but addictive to watch. Good stuff!
Looks really cool. Maybe could have worked for a Sin City-type movie. I'd totally love to see what they could do with a technique like this today. I noticed the date on this test was 1962. Too bad it didn't go anywhere. Or maybe it did and I'm just unaware.
Thanks for the link.

Hey, is that Steve Canyon in the opening scene? I guess it could be, if this clip is just an in-house test. Sure looks like Steve, with his trademarked lock of dark hair and all.
This is fun. Not animation in any real way, but definitely watchable and kind of fascinating in its own way.
