Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium Spin-Offs Hit Stores

Since Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium is about a living toy store, there probably won't be a lot of custom toy merchandise, but a fair number of retro-style toys are popping up as tie-ins. Target has some replicas of old-school Fisher-price toys, including this Snoop 'n' Sniff which you can get for only $24.99!

I haven't been able to look any of these over in person yet - I'm assuming they'll be all plastic, and not wooden like the older versions. Still, it's a great way to get your kids (or yourself) classic toy replicas for a fraction of what the originals would go for on eBay!

I've seen a few of these ... the packaging and details are quite good.

I know Mr. Duck looks like a combo of tin (or metal of some type) and plastic.

The dog looks to be made of wood (or resin to simulate wood) and was quite heavy.

The clock is wonderful ... and there's the telephone that my kid brother had as a toddler.

Mr. Potato Head is great, complete with a real body -- but I'm sure there was no pipe. It comes in a tin litho box with great graphics.

I'm wondering how limited these items are going to be and whether the film will be at least as good (hopefully much better) than "A Night at the Museum."

They're certainly tempting in a nostalgic sort of way.

I saw some of the toys at Target this evening - they're not bad, but the biggest problem is that the manufacturers apply huge artwork stickers to plastic toys.

This method works fine for wooden toys, but whatever the labels are applied with now is just okay. Almost every toy had peeling stickers in the box. Fisher-Price released other replicas earlier in the year with the same problem.

Mr. Potato Head is good, but it's been changed quite a bit to meet current safety standards. I like it better than the current body-less versions, but it doesn't hit the retro button hard enough for me.

If this line is showing up at Target, I'm assuming these toys will be fairly widespread - the movie looks pretty high-profile too, like it's aiming to be the next Willy Wonka.

Unfortunately, there doesn't look to be any Roald Dahl vinegar in the trailer. It's coming off as too cloying for my taste.
