Toy OTD: Walt Disney Classics Collection Figurine: Susie The Little Blue Coupe (2004)

This is one of my favorite Disney merchandising lines - the sculptors really have a knack for adapting 2-D cartoon characters into three dimensions!

The Susie figurine isn't as elaborate as past releases, but it's still very well done. The sculpt and pose are really solid, and they capture the character. Big points for adding the antenna, which could have been dropped to make production easier and cheaper. A small minus might be the paint job - the glazing looks a little thin, and I seem to remember seeing brush work in the finish. It's a subtle and minor detail, and doesn't affect the overall quality much.

This item's been retired for quite a while, so the secondary market will be your hunting ground. Earl's Jewlers has one for sale for $75 + shipping, which sounds lower than the retail price ($95) that I remember (though I might be mistaken). Gocollect.com also has it for the same price. So get shopping!

This was the cartoon that inspired John Lassiter to make CARS and not use the headlamps as eyes - since that's much more limiting ...

Is that right? Neato.

I STILL have to take some pics of the Susie and Pedro hard plastic toys over at my friend's house...he & his wife are in Zagreb and then onto Hong Kong, of all places, to promote a movie, but when they get back I'm barging in on them with camera.

Steve's the only person I know with a collection that might--*might*, mind you--rival yours for scope and condition. But I'm sure he'd drool to see many of these things--like the TC porclains; I'm sure he's never had any of those.

Speaking of figures: how many TV Tinykins do you have? Have you taken a pic with all of them lined up?

I don't actually own any Tinykins. I had a bunch of Disneykins when I was little (and a clear plastic castle!), but they all got smashed up.

I was pretty careful with toys for the most part, but those were just too fragile!

i Just found a little toy like Susie, but it seems a lot older, made in japan, it has a logo of two kids boy and girl over some letters i think it says TOMY it is too small. How old do you think it could be?
