Sneak Previews Opening, Circa 1982

Here's a nostalgia break for those of you who grew up with Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel, back when they were on public television.

I always loved this show - The goofy theme song was so catchy and simple that it's stuck in my head to this day.

The first footage that I saw from "Star Wars" (the Death Star escape and tie fighter attack!) was on "Sneak Previews". One of my happiest geek moments!

As added bonuses, there's an awkward local station identification clip, and the super-gaudy WTTW logo from that time. Enjoy!

I grew up on this show as well. Really couldn't wait for it to come on every week. Seems like the reviews/debates had a lot more "weight" to them then. A couple of smart film loving guys...totally unaffected by the "insider" trappings of todays reviewers. Thanks Jeff. Cheers, Bob

You just can't beat that old stock studio, needle drop stuff. I wish to God someone would find all the mag track stuff and put it out. There are hours of that catchy crap rotting somwhere, i just know it.

I know DIC just started some kind of online royalty-free music service. Maybe they have some of it!

It all really is "needle drop", so it's doubtful there'll be an album. But, if you want to license it just talk to the king of needle drop, Forrest Patten, forrest@k-sound.com who wrote:

The original Siskel and Ebert "SNEAK PREVIEWS" theme is by Bill Loose and was created for the "OZZIE AND HARRIET" show. There are actually three different cues used. The first part is what I call the "busy traffic" section that opens the show. It then cuts to a short "tag" version (when the theater doors open) that leads into the show. For the closing credits, there's a "whistling" version that was used.

So now you know what it was, at least.
