Original Mach 5 Go! Go! Go! Opening

Jerry Beck helped me to find this clip from the Japanese show that became known as Speed Racer here in America. What surprised me was that the famous theme song was always in the opening titles - I always thought that it was created for the domestic release.

Don't you think this version of the song should have been in the new movie somewhere - in the end credits at the very least? It makes me want to see more of the Japanese version of the show, even though I think it'd wind up disappointing me, like reading the original manga did.

Anyway, I think the music and visuals are fun - enjoy!

Acyually, Jeff, this theme is in there a little bit in the end credits, in a very swanky Herb Alpert-esque arrangement by Michael Giacchino. Both the "Go Speed Racer!" and "Mach 5 Go! Go!" vocals are sampled and used in there as well. It's the track just called "Speed Racer," I think, on the score; I could send it to you if your dropped me an email, if that weren't totally illegal and evil beyond words....

Thanks for your evil offer, but I did buy the entire soundtrack from iTunes a while ago.

I really liked Mr. Giacchino's take on the Speed Racer theme, but there's something about the original that's so pure! It would've been like hearing the Spider-Man cartoon theme at the end of the first Spider-Man movie (which I thought was a great geeky touch).
