Toy Story Mania! Opens

Well, it actually opened yesterday. Now that it's officially open, I feel like I can share these photos I took at the cast member preview. It's a great ride, and lots of fun!

I got pretty good scores in the game, but I have a feeling Anita will kick me up and down the street on our next visit! Her accuracy was steadily improving each time through...

Toy Story Midway Mania! is an instant classic with a very high re-rideability factor (assuming that people won't regularly have to wait up to 6 hours for the ride as they did on the official opening Tuesday).

As a member of the media, I was able to ride it several times Monday -- and Disney even gave us a special ticket to invite a family to experience the ride Monday evening (a very cool touch) allowing us to create a little special magic of our own. I invited a family of 12 (three generations from a 2-year-old girl to her 60+year-old grandfather). They all loved it and I'm sure they were appreciative if they returned to see the lines on Tuesday.

I also had a chance to interview John Lasseter who promised that every upcoming change to DCA will be as good as the exceptional Toy Story Midway Mania! (I'll be writing more about that in the next few weeks for print and online articles ...)

DCA gets a bit of a bad rap by those who compare it its well-established royal next-door neighbor. But with Soaring, Tower of Terror, Grizzly Flats Rapids, the awesome California Screaming, Toy Story Midway Mania, Turtle Talk, Monsters Inc., the still-packing-'em-in Aladdin stage show and several other child and family friendly offerings, DCA is beginning to grow into its own.

With Little Mermaid and Cars Land attractions, the Wonderful World of Color water/pyrotechnic show and other offerings planned in the next half-decade, DCA should become a princess in her own right and silence those who think of her as an ugly step-sister to Walt's park.
