Medicom VCD Modern Pets Mickey Mouse (2006)
There's been a lot of re-imagining of Mickey Mouse going on in the last few years, and this vinyl figure is one of the most successful examples. This toy is a nice merging of the Modern Pets style with classic Mickey - it still feels like the character, even though it's a significant departure from the current design. It's very appealing, and like most Medicom toys, extremely well made! The sculpted pose is really strong, and the color work is a terrific combination of tight paint passes and different colors of vinyl. It all comes together to form an attractive 3-D version of stylized cartoon design.
I think I originally paid around $40 for this figure. It's been out for a couple of years now, so its price has climbed to $68.99 + shipping at yesasia.com. Get on it!

I kinda like it. Not as much as actual Mickey though of course.
There's so many versions of 'actual Mickey', though, and these days a lot of them are merchandised at the same time! I like all of the designs up to the early forties, culminating in his appearance in Fantasia.
Beautiful! Medicom almost always delivers!
Also, love the recent Happy Beaver comic!!! Can't wait for the next :)
great thoughts.....
Thanks, Dave! I'm going to try to get another strip done soon!
I got this one while I was in Asia. For some reason, it seems like the international license holders are way more open to different interpretations like this one. I love it!

I'm assuming that it's because they have no stakes involved if a Mickey re-working fails - 'he's' not the iconic representative of their businesses. I'll bet Nintendo is very particular on how Mario is portrayed, for example.
Plus, I'm sure manufacturing 'off-model' Mickey products overseas probably assuages fears of harming The Brand. To be fair, Disney's been a lot more flexible about this sort of thing than they were twenty years ago!
