Warner Bros. and Fox have settled their very public battle over "Watchmen." A deal has been hammered out that that gives WB some face-saving points, but which gives Fox the equivalent of a movie star’s gross participation.

Warner Bros. gets the right to open its superhero pic on March 6 as planned, and Fox's logo will not be on the film, sources said.

I've seen a longer trailer for the film but I'm still not convinced that it is going to be anything near as good as the comic, but you never know.

I've never seen any of your comments on The Dark Knight. There is quite the number of posts on it still over at Jim Emerson's blog (he edits rogerebert.com).

I liked the Dawn of the Dead remake that Mr. Snyder made, but 300 didn't really work for me. Like Sin City, I thought it underscored the weaknesses of the comics, rather than improving them.

I'm not all that optimistic about Watchmen, either - it's a multi-layered story that may not translate to film well, even in the best of situations. It was carefully designed to be read, and makes a lot of references to comics that many people don't know (or care?) anything about. Still, I'm glad it's being made instead of another origin story.

I thought The Dark Knight was overrated - I don't think people would've liked it half as much if Heath Ledger hadn't been as good as he was.

I thought the film was basically over after the hospital sequence, and wore out its welcome by following the Two-Face thread through (I felt it should have been saved for the next film). Other story elements either felt like they were in the wrong place, redundant, or altogether unnecessary (the secret-identity-blackmail bit, the ferries with double detonators).

Still, I liked the maturity and ambition of the movie, and enjoyed it more the second time I saw it.
