Here We Go AGAIN!

Anthony Pafford sent me this picture of Eagle Printing's storefront in Lincoln, NE. I thought about letting this one slide, until I discovered the same drawing all over their website. So I wrote a C&D email to them yesterday. I wrote to at least three people, so they can't use the "I was on vacation" excuse as easily.

I'd like to take a moment and thank Anthony (and all my other sharp-eyed friends) for bringing these incidents to my attention. Four steals in about a month! Yikes.

As you can imagine, I've submitted Happy Beaver to the copyright office, in case I need to pursue one of these problems further. Rest assured that Kumo-Kun and Jazz Boid will soon join him!

I've updated this post as I haven't heard back from Eagle Printing yet. Next step - youthoughtwewouldntnotice.com!

PS - If you want to see larger versions of this images, click here and here.

UPDATE (08/05/09) - I've just been contacted by Eagle Printing, and every trace of "Happy Beaver" has been removed. Hooray!

You just know that for these four there must be many more we'll never know about, which is sickening. Well, any one that can be cited is taken care of at least.
I guess much of this is just ignorance--but that's still no excuse.

It was so weird to see HB on the sign as I was just considering buying your toy the other day.

What's worse is this company is always hitting me up to send them work. With this attention to detail, I won't be sending them any lucrative service contracts any time soon.

The moral of the story is Google images is not a repository of copyright free clip art!

If it comes to it, you might want to drop them a (polite) line stating just that. The pocketbook is a pretty sensitive spot on a business.

I'd wait until you hear back from me, though. I'm trying to pace myself more slowly than I did with the last person!

So, which copyright gods did you offend? This is getting insane...

Must be all those bootleg VHS sets of Mama's Family that I've been selling at Comic-Con! :)

Again? Outrageous! Maybe you should just license the images out and get paid for it. The internet has become a haven for the "take $50 for yourself" crowd...Any chance on shutting this new infringement down?

I've written to them twice, and notified them that I've written about them here and on youthoughwewouldntnotice.com. Total silence so far, and nothing has changed on the site, either. I think it's going to take a letter from a lawyer to make them do anything!

Maybe it's time to get a lawyer - the image is still up on the site.

I'm still going through the application process with the Copyright Office. Then I can pick my battles.

It was nice meeting you at Comic Con, Jeff! Thanks for the Sketch of Super Happy Beaver. I won't be making copies of it at Eagle Printing!
